Frequently asked questions
- Does the app need the internet? No. All the physics runs on your device. The internet is used only if you paste a YouTube link in Sounds of Nature.
- Why does Sounds of Nature ask for the microphone? So the molecule can move to music playing nearby. The sound is analysed on your device in real time and never recorded, stored or sent anywhere. You can turn the permission off at any time in your device settings.
- The molecule doesn't react to my music. The microphone has to hear the music, so headphones won't work. Play it on the device's speaker or a speaker nearby, turn the volume up, or raise the sensitivity slider.
- How does Binding Dimer Duel work? Two players take turns on one device. Each poses the small molecule against the big one and locks it in; the pair relaxes and the higher binding energy wins.
- Are the results exact? No. The app is an educational tool: energies, structures and spectra come from an approximate machine-learned force field. Do not use them for laboratory, medical or safety decisions.
- Can I use the app in class? Yes. Teachers may show it in lessons, and screenshots may be used in worksheets and presentations, credited as "Atoms-World © Alexandre Tkatchenko".
- Which languages are there? English, French, German and Spanish. Change the language with the globe button on the start screen.
- Which devices does it run on? iPhone and iPad with iOS 18 or later. The physics runs faster on recent devices; large molecules relax more slowly on older ones.
- What data do you collect? None. There are no accounts, analytics, ads or tracking. See the privacy policy.
- Where are the licence and the open-source notices? In the app under ⓘ → Legal, and on this site: licence agreement at /eula, third-party notices at /licenses.
